Trial of the foreigner Galina
December 2017
Performance (25mins)
Staged in an English farm, using a live chicken and a human being this interspecies performance draws on the similarity between the female Russian name "Galina" and the Portuguese word "galinha" (chicken). Recalling an absurd semantic lesson, the performance dealt with the experience of ‘foreignness’. This was expressed through a real physical relocation/dislocation of the people present and the chicken from their respective ‘familiar’ spaces. The audience and the artist were removed from Goldsmiths relocated to the farm and the chicken from its coop to an actual existing gallery space on the farm.
